Porsche plants a new 3.0L twin-turbo inside the 911 Carrera & Carrera S for a tidy 20 horsepower increase for 2017. Here's a closer look.

Debuting next week at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the new 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera finds a new twin-turbo 3.0 L flat-six engine generation with 370-hp (420-hp on Carrera S), and will propose a new standard Porsche Communication Management and new rear-wheel steering option. Porsche likely won’t tinker with the iconic 911 exterior styling a great deal but the new 2017 911 Carrera will find some visual refinements including new headlights with four-point daytime running lights to door handles without recess covers, a redesigned rear lid with vertical louvres and new rear lights – including the characteristic four-point brake lights. Inside the latest 911, the new standard Porsche Communication Management with a multi-touch display offers a considerably expanded range of functions and greatly simplified operation. Powering the new 911 Carrera is a completely new engine producing 370-hp and 420-hp in the Carrera S model. In both cases, this represents a power increase of 20 hp. Both engines have a displacement of 3.0 The greater power of the 911 Carrera S results from turbochargers with modified compressors, a specific exhaust system, and tuned engine management.
