Ford Mustang GT4: New V8 Racer Built to Demolish the Circuits

Based on the Shelby GT350R-C, the new Mustang GT4 goes global.

Ford Performance is making sure the Mustang is indeed a global car, and the all-new Mustang GT4 Race car which just debuted at SEMA in Las Vegas is the model to do it. The turnkey GT4 racer is based on the Shelby GT350R-C, which won its class this year in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge – its first full season of competition. Powered by a 5.2-liter V8 and six-speed Holinger paddle-shift transmission, the Mustang GT4 seeks to demolish the competition in a variety of racing series, including the Grand Sport class of IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, the Pirelli World Challenge GTS, and European GT4. Inside, the Mustang GT4 finds a full FIA-compliant roll cage, plus features a motorsports engine control and an antilock-braking controller, along with a Motec dash logger.  Based on the Shelby GT350R-C, the all-new Mustang GT4 features chassis mods from Multimatic Motorsports, including dampers, lower rear control arms and stabilizer bars; rolling on Forgeline 18- by 11-inch wheels paired to aerodynamic aids that are applied to improve downforce, including a rear wing, aggressive splitter, additional hood venting and new rear diffuser. Aside from aspirations to win all its competitions — which won’t exactly be easy — the Mustang GT4 plans to expose the legendary Mustang nameplate to an even larger, international level.
