Stelvio SUV Reviews & News

Quick Overview

The Stelvio is next-level sh-t as far as SUV performance goes, up there with the likes of other powerhouses including the 707-hp 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Essentially, the cargo-friendly family hauler you’d expect that doubles as a handling-focused track star. And this one shares a platform with its sibling, mid-size Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan.

The Italian automakers first-ever sport utility, both available grades of Stelvio (regular or Ti) are powered by the same 2-liter, DI-turbo four-cylinder engine. It’s mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with AWD and makes 280-horsepower and 306 lb-ft of torque. It all translates to relaxed progress with plenty of shove on tap when you need it.

Then there’s the range-topper 505-hp Stelvio Quadrifoglio that recently lapped Nürburgring in a record 7 minutes 51.7 seconds, making its mark with the fastest time ever posted by a production SUV. We see this as a trend. And definitely like it.

Stelvio Pros

– distinctive styling, attractive cabin

– sporty handling without the ride penalty

– simple range and limited optional equipment

Stelvio Cons

– styling brings some compromises to utility

– exhaust note might not be to everyone’s taste-

– a couple of niggling faults on our test car

What Others Are Saying About the Alfa Romeo SUV

With so much Giulia DNA the Stelvio was bound to be good. At last, Alfa has a car to buy with your heart and head – TopGear

Since this is a driver’s kind of car, it’s a little light on the autonomous features, but it does have a blind spot warning system and one of the best adaptive cruise controls I’ve tried. – Gary Gastelu, FoxNews

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio is a functional and practical mid-size SUV with all the right ingredients, just without the right execution. It wants to be sporty yet ends up falling short with a powerful yet dramaless engine, an inconsistent brake pedal, and a rough transmission. – Calvin Chan,
