Audacious IV Gives the Audi Quattro a 10,000-RPM V8

All the boxy '80s attitude. None of the original five-cylinder soundtrack.

Messing with the original Audi Quattro is risky business. But British coachbuilder Audacious Automotive seems perfectly comfortable doing just that. Its new Audacious IV takes the unmistakable shape of the Group B-era rally legend and combines it with the mechanical guts of a B7-generation Audi RS4. That means a 4.2-liter V8, six-speed manual, and all-wheel drive, with supercharged versions producing up to 750 horsepower. For those who think that’s still too sensible, the company is also developing naturally aspirated and supercharged versions that can rev to a ridiculous 10,000 rpm. Buyers can choose between a reworked original Quattro shell or newly manufactured carbon-fiber bodywork, while the cabin mixes retro-inspired design with modern craftsmanship. Only 50 examples are planned, with prices starting around $470,000 USD before taxes and extras. First deliveries are expected in late 2027. It’s an impressive take on an automotive icon, but one thing is missing: that distinctive five-cylinder soundtrack that’s practically half the original Quattro’s personality. Whether the V8 is a worthy replacement is debatable. The styling, though? Hard to argue with.
