Master & Dynamic may not be a widely recognized brand name you’ll find at those big box retailers. But in the world of premium sound tools — from headphones and earphones to speakers and accessories — they’re quickly gaining ground as one of the best thanks to a meteoric rise since arriving in 2014, partnering with various marquees including Rolling Stone and Leica, to name a couple. Now, the New York-based company teams up with Lamborghini on a collection of high-performance headphones and earphones inspired by the design and materials of the iconic Italian super sports cars — from the Raging Bull logo and the Lambo hexagon and Y patterns, to incorporating materials like Alcantara, sapphire glass, Italian acetate, anodized aluminum, and stainless steel.
Lamborghini headphones for the serious audiophiles
The MW65 Automobili Lamborghini active noise-cancelling wireless headphones are based on M&D’s most technically sophisticated and lightest headphone product, taking the MW65 and essentially making it even better with the added upscale materials.
All this for a modest $50 price bump over non-Lambo MW65 version which sell for $499. That’s not bad, and you don’t need to be an exotic car lover to appreciate that value.
Key features of the M&D special edition MW65
At first glance, these things look hefty. But they’re surprisingly light at only 245g courtesy of a clean design using lightweight anodized aluminum and custom 40mm Beryllium drivers which produce crisp, clear audio.
And they’re super comfortable too with fine leathers and replaceable Alcantara-wrapped memory foam ear pads not found on the stock MW65; much more comfortable than my JBL LIVE 650TNC wireless noise-cancelling over-the-ear headphones, which are less than half the price, mind you.
Expect up to 24 hours of listening time, and if you’re in a rush to catch that flight, a 15 minute charge will garner 12 hours of power which is definitely a convenient, nice-to-have feature. But hey, if you don’t have 15 minutes (likely), the box includes a two-prong flight adaptor specifically for airplanes (and procrastinators).
Another welcomed feature is the dual-mode noise cancelling, including the High Power mode for super noisy environments like city streets and airplane flights, and Low Power mode to cut out lower noise like wind. Of course, there’s an off switch with passive noise isolation — good for saving battery life when bothersome background sounds aren’t really an issue.
Like most premium headphones, expect a dual microphone as well designed to filter out external noise for clear phone calls. Plus, Google Assistant for which these MW65s are optimized, including voice assistant when enabled.
In the box
A set of of these Lamborghini MW65 headphones comes with a sleek little pouch that’s both soft and functional, sporting a hidden pocket to store your cables and adaptors. The main opening for the headphones sports a magnetic clamp. Overall, M&D didn’t just ‘throw in’ a generic carrying case for the sake of it; they’ve actually put some thought into it, and it shows.
Cables include a USB-C to USB-C charging cable, a conventional 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable for non-wireless duties, a USB-A adaptor which was a pleasant surprise, and that two-prong flight adaptor we mentioned earlier.
