Mopar’s $30,000 Crate Engine with “Hellephant” 1,000-HP HEMI

Mopar kicks off HEMI Day with the 1,000-horsepower "Hellephant" 426 Supercharged Crate HEMI Engine and Kit.

If buying a diabolical Mopar crate engine is on your Dodge to-do list, today is a very good day — on HEMI Day, no less (April 26).

First unveiled last year at the 2018 SEMA show, the “Hellephant” engine is a Mopar-first for a 1,000-horsepower crate engine kit offered by an OEM. Around 1,000 potential buyers expressed interest in the plug-and-play engine at the show, and it is now available to all through pre-orders at www.cratehemi.com.

As the company puts it, “The reaction when we revealed the ‘Hellephant’ engine at the SEMA Show was just amazing, and the momentum continued after the show, with close to 1,000 people expressing interest in buying this engine.”

The Demon Crate with $1 upgrades might be the last time Mopar’s home-delivered, turnkey engine made so much noise. In addition to insane power expect this powerplant to put down a whopping 950 lb.-ft. of torque.

Five Kits to Complete the Build

To help with the build, Mopar is offering a variety of kits as well for a more turnkey process for dropping in “Hellephant” as effortlessly as possible. These include:

  • Front End Accessory Drive Kit (P/N 77072492)
  • A/C Expansion Kit (P/N 77072493),
  • Exhaust Manifold Kit (P/N 77072462)
  • Rear Sump Oil Pan Kit (P/N 77072450AB)
  • 45-degree Oil Filter Kit (P/N 77072447)

In addition to the above add-ons, the entire HEMI engine upgrade comes with a water pump, flywheel, front sump oil pan, supercharger with throttle body, fuel injectors and coil packs.

“Hellephant” engine priced at US$29,995

For the price of a new car, Mopar’s powerful crate engine is clearly out of reach for most muscle car builders. MSRP is set to $29,995. Experienced installers can pay $2,265 for a what Mopar claims “provides relatively easy plug-and-play” install.

Again, pre-orders of this Mopar crate engine are available at www.cratehemi.com and will arrive at your door in distinct packaging with a “Hellephant” logo so there’s no confusion with your wife’s Amazon book order.

Happy HEMI day.
