Muscular & refreshed Genesis G70 shows us why luxury sports sedans still matter

Bolder look with lower grille & updated interior lead the big changes

Launched just a few years ago, the Genesis G70 has hit the ground running, picking up some awards along the way including the 2019 North American Car of the Year.

For 2022, the luxury sports sedan gets a worthy refresh including an updated, muscular design and driver-focused interior with all the extra tech you’d expect from a premium brand.

In a world that has been neglecting the lowly 4-door, it’s good to see sedans still holding their own with killer, low-slung styling — you just don’t get that with an SUV (sorry).

So, what’s new with the facelifted G70?

Inside, the big news is the 10.25-inch infotainment system protruding from the dash top. The setup includes Genesis UI design supporting the latest over-the-air (OTA, wifi update feature) wireless updates, Valet mode and CarPay — this latter feature lowing payments for parking lots and gas stations all using the in-car navigation. So ditch those physical cards.

Like many other new sport sedans, Genesis is claiming their new G70 interior “leverages a driver-centered architecture resembling a fighter jet cockpit.” Add new technology and connectivity to the mix.

On the outside, the 2022 G70 takes on a more sculpted, sportier look compared to the outgoing model. The front grille sits lower now and taking on a  more V-shaped look, flanked by more stylish new Quad Lamps.

The rear looks equally as good with those stretched-out rear taillights are inspired by the Genesis logo, coupled with oval exhaust tips surrounded by body coloured diffusers and full width G-Matrix mesh.

The Korean brand is dubbing the new model as their most athletic sports sedan — we’d have to agree based on these early photos. Genesis will release more info, specs, and pricing in coming months. Stay tuned.
