2013 Range Rover Supercharged Review

Shopping for a used 2013 Range Rover? The Sport’s 375-hp V8 was strong, but the Supercharged model cranked things up to 510 horsepower. Here’s a closer look.

The 2013 Range Rover Supercharged was a limited-edition vehicle within the 2013 Range Rover lineup. This edition added a great deal of power to the standard powertrain. The regular 2013 Range Rover Sport was equipped with a V8 engine delivering up to 375 hp, but the Supercharged V8 dialed that up to 510 hp, as well as 461 lb-ft of torque.

The Supercharged powertrain also featured a direct-injection fuel system and was paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission that included a manual shift mode. As a high-end car, Jaguar Land Rover likely didn’t worry too much about fuel economy, and that’s good because the 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged was powerful but thirsty. It achieved approximately 19.6L/100km (12 mpg) in the city, 13.8L/100km (17 mpg), and about 16.8L/100km (14 mpg) combined.

On the road, this luxury mid-size SUV was praised in particular for its engine power and steering. It was also identified as a great vehicle for highway cruising since the engine was at its best when operating at mid- to high-speeds. Even when riding on large wheels, the general performance of the 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged was strong.

Land Rover offered a Comfort Package that included a solar-attenuating front windshield, in addition to the aforementioned fridge and massage functions.

It may be marketed as a luxury vehicle, too, but the Range Rover Sport Supercharged has more than enough torque to make it an off-road vehicle. To start, it features a two-speed transfer gearbox that uses a higher gear range as standard for everyday driving, but switches to low-speed and high-torque applications when needed. This makes the Supercharged suitable for rock crawling or even scaling the toughest-grade slopes.

It was also equipped with Land Rover Terrain Response 2, its permanent 4WD system that uses advanced sensors to assess the terrain and adapt torque and suspension needs accordingly.

Inside the Cabin and Exterior Design: Comfort, Luxury, and a Few Quirks

If buyers didn’t choose this variant of the Range Rover Sport for its engine power, then it was likely for the styling features that also came as part and parcel of it. One reviewer said of it that those in the black exterior paint sometimes looked like “a British tank” in the sense of it being powerful, imposing, and a head-turner.

Fast forward a decade, the 2023 Range Rover Sport gets a redesigned look, new interior, and more powertrain options, in case you’re considering something newer.

Interior features include comfortable and supportive leather seats, especially for the driver, that come with heating and ventilation up front. There was also an optional back massage function for the driver. The cabin was enhanced with a massive panoramic sunroof, and high-end additions included a refrigerated cooler box in the center console and a 825-watt Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound premium audio system featuring 17 speakers and an active subwoofer.

The use of leather, wood, and genuine metal helps create an interior that feels refined and comfortable. Land Rover offered a Comfort Package that included a solar-attenuating front windshield, in addition to the aforementioned fridge and massage functions. However, the 2013 models were plagued by issues with the infotainment system, which was criticized for being slow and unresponsive. That wouldn’t be fixed until much later.
