Aston Martin’s $7,450 AMR-C01 Racing Simulator Cockpit

Hyper car inspired racer worthy of any man cave.

Aston Martin is hitting the Esports market hard with their first-ever racing simulator cockpit. Designed by the automaker and engineered by Curv Racing Simulators — the first partnership between the two UK companies — the AMR-C01 is as posh as it comes to a luxury racing simulator providing a fully immersive driving experience for the home user. With a roughly $7,450 price tag (or £57,500, to be exact) and only 150 deliveries beginning in late 2020, you can see why. Still, this price doesn’t touch Cranfield’s $165,000 Formula 1 Simulator.

More driver cockpit and less a Aston Martin replica, the AMR-C01 does integrate many of the automaker’s design cues — from the distinct Aston Martin Racing grille to the seating setup found in the V12-powered Valkyrie rocket. For a more customized look, seven colour options and three trim choices are available.

The storied British carmaker says, “This was a challenge for the design team as, although the simulator isn’t a car, it is inspired by our racing cars.” They’ve pulled it off, resulting in a high-end simulator with a hypercar vibe worthy of hog space in any man cave.

Built of lightweight carbon fibre monocoque and running the latest Assetto Corsa software as standard, the hand-assembled virtual racer finds a massive, super ultra-wide gaming QHD 32:9 aspect ratio monitor front and centre, promising smooth visuals and high refresh rates to ensure Esport racers aren’t left in the dust. Curv claims the users are able to run the simulator on various other platforms as well, including iRacing and rFactor2.

In the cockpit, racers dive right into a carbon fibre seat with custom trim, paired with a paddle shift and dual-clutch equipped F1-style steering wheel with a plethora of buttons and dials — 9 rotary dials and 12 push buttons, to be exact.

Down below, a clean and dust-free electronically-controlled pedal box setup with 200mm of travel takes the AMR-C01 to the next level. This assembly includes an electric actuator, all housed in a carbon fibre enclosure. To ensure audio duties are on point, the cockpit finds built-in speakers and a headset courtesy of Sennheiser.

Esport racing took off once the COVID-19 pandemic hit with the world’s racing calendars on hold; with several real-world races back on, virtual racing continues to grow exponentially. And for the hardcore armchair drivers — or simply dudes looking to spruce up their dude abodes — Aston Martin’s AMR-C01 racing simulator cockpit will certainly ramp things up.
