Range Rover dials up luxury with SVR-powered 2016 SVAutobiography

Expect the same 5.0L V8 from the performance-topping Range Rover SVR.

You can tell when the global economy is slowly turning itself around when automakers, particularly of the luxury flavor, begin offering expensive, highly exclusive special editions of products they already offering.

Introduced ahead of the 2015 New York auto show, the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover SVAutobiography, SV a variant of Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations division’s moniker, is a luxury SUV that has been turned up to 11.

Powered by the Range Rover SVR

Power comes from a supercharged, 5.0-liter V-8 producing 550 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque—it’s the same mill and output found in the performance-topping Range Rover SVR.

The engine in the long-wheelbase Autobiography Black edition produced 510 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of the twisty stuff, so this is a noticeable step up. The SVAuto is also of the long-wheelbase cloth.

Want more power? For 2022, there’s the Range Rover Sport SVR Ultimate Edition – the Brit’s most powerful SUV with a 575-hp retuned V8, 22-inch gloss black wheels, and new solid glass flake colours.

Luxury SUV propelling 0 to 60 in well under 6-seconds

Land Rover claims zero to 60 mph will pass in just 5.5 seconds. Top speed remains unchanged at 140 mph. Other goodies include a new exhaust that enhances the engine note; Brembo brakes to stop the behemoth and a unique front grille with a gray finish and polished chrome accents.

Like all uber-SUVs, the exclusivity and price give buyers options, including those who purchase the 2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography. Unique color options for the SVAutobiography includes a two-tone option matching Santorini Black with one of nine lower-body color choices.

Interior excess is what this special edition Rover is all about

Inside the mid-size luxury SUV, many amenities found in the non-SV Range Rover Autobiography are found in the SV model. Such features include rear-seat entertainment screens, 20-way power front seats, 1,700-watt Meridian sound system, four-zone climate controls, power rear seats, and much more.

The differences in the SVAutobiography model are in the details. Milled aluminum details adorn the pedals, rotary shift knob and armrest adjusters. Rear seat passengers are treated to powered lap tables, a beverage cooler, mohair mats and coat hooks. Talk about opulence.

2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography price

With a price at $200,490—starting, mind you—the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover SVAutobiography is poised to take on its competition, like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. Expect the Range Rover SVAutobiography to be in driveways soon.
