Back in 1954, Bell founder Roy Richter created his first helmet out of fiberglass and gave it the name “500.” It was that moment that was dubbed ground zero for the modern motorsport helmet and it raised the standards and quality of the entire industry of Motorcycles and Motorsports as a whole.

The Look and Quality
Bell’s Custom 500 Helmet pays respect and honor to Richter’s original design and adds a modern protective technology to bring the design as a whole up-to-date; but it still stays true to the original aesthetics of the helmet.
By combining a custom fiberglass layup with an especially designed layer of EPS foam, Bell engineers have been able to craft the helmet that is now light weight and narrow in profile while being DOT compliant. The overall look is sleek and true with custom paint-inspired graphics and chrome trim work with a quilted liner; the Custom 500 looks as good as it performs and then some.
While throwbacks and retro lids, aka helmets, are nice in theory, Bell’s Custom 500 Helmet gives back to the original and makes throwbacks throw aways.
